Today, in the wee hours of the morning, a Facebook event popped up in my newsfeed. The event was titled, Recall Sweeney Day of Action!, and it is rather self-explanatory as to what the goal of the event is. The event seems to have been birthed by two residents of the 3rd Legislative District, Sweeney’s jurisdiction, and another from Pedricktown. Check out the website.
After viewing the Event, which is scheduled to occur on June 27th in Glassboro, I started to think, “How is this even possible, and why am I just hearing about it now?”.
25% of registered voters from NJLD 3 is equal to 34,852 signatures needed from the total number of registered voters, 139,408. This seems pretty feasible, especially with plenty of dedicated organizers.
Now that we understand the how, let’s try and understand the why.
The organizers cite the following six reasons on their website:
It appears that the organizers hold Sweeney solely accountable for a lot in New Jersey, but hey, we should all be holding all of our New Jersey legislators much more accountable. Besides, I live in NJLD 6, so who am I to judge the residents over in NJLD 3? It’s their district, their government, go for it!
